Like that song by Nancy Sinatra

The boy walked slowly through the empty halls of the school. He was young, he had celebrated his fourteenth birthday only three weeks earlier, but his steps carried the weariness of an old man. He had blonde hair and blue eyes; the face of an angel, his mother always told him. Her special little angel, she used to say. She would never call him that again.
He was dressed in a trenchcoat much to big for his frail figure, a pair of baggy trousers and a Nirvana t-shirt. A military issue assault rifle hung heavily from a strap around his thin shoulders and bumped gently against his side with each stride. The wail from sirens outside the building was the only noise disturbing the stillness.

Jonah let go of a sigh of relief as he sat down by the desk in the classroom. He'd made it, and, being late, he'd managed to avoid the jocks. All things considered, the day had had a pretty good start. As good as things got, anyway. Dean, with his afro hair and wide smile turned around in his chair and grinned at him. He passed him a note.
"Checked out the new DnD-trailer?" Jonah shook his head with a questioning expression. He hadn't even known they'd released it yet, but Dean usually had all the info before anyone else even knew there was any information to begin with. Jonah glanced at Eric, but his thin, blonde friend kept staring forward into the empty space in front of him that had taken up much of his attention the past week. Jonah was actually beginning to worry about his friend and fellow adventurer in the roleplaying games that kept himself, Eric and Dean busy during the weekends. Sure, Eric saw his share of abuse and bullying from the jocks, but then again, they all did. The trick was not to let them get to them, but Eric had always been terrible at that part. They did get to him. They got to him a lot, eventhough he pretended that they didn't. The taunts, the shoves, the smug grins on all the popular kids. Jonah and Dean had learned to ignore it, but Eric had became increasingly withdrawn during the years. Jonah was worried indeed.

The bell eventually rang for lunch and Jonah prepared to enter the fray. Usually, the three of them had little trouble reaching the cafeteria unmolested, but some days, the jocks were simply out for blood. This had led to a certain degree of carefullness in the boys' behaviour as they crossed the halls in the school, like gazelles on the savanna, avoiding notice from the larger predators.
Eric stood up beside them in his trademark coat and band-t-shirts but he didn't follow them. When Jonah and Dean turned around he just smiled an eerie sort of smile.
"You guys go ahead, I'll be along shortly." His voice was distant and preoccupied. "I've got this thing I need to take care of first."

The two boys reached the cafeteria unharmed, having successfully avoided notice from the predators. They discussed the new trailer that Dean had been fortunate enough to find, and were just about to sit down and start eating when all of the sudden, they heard shots. Three seconds later, someone hit the firealarm and panic rose through the crowded cafeteria. The shots continued.
Jonah and Dean threw themselvs to the floor, acting on instinct rather than anything else.
"A shooting?! Here?!?" Deans normal deep voice had turned into a terrified squeak as they hid beneath the table while chaos filled the cafeteria as the rest of the students headed towards the doors and windows of the room.
"Quick!" Jonah grabbed Dean and dragged him to his feet. "We can't stay here, we'll be sitting ducks!"
They joined the crowd until they reached the computer labs, where they hurried inside and locked the door and listened to the terrified screams of the people outside as the shoots continued to echo through the building.

The noise eventually died down and was replaced with an odd stillness, a dead silence. Jonah and Dean rose and after a while, Jonah peeked outside. The hallway was empty. The two boys exited the room and made their way down the corridor as silently as they could manage. As they crept through the quiet school, they saw unmoving figures lying in doorways and otherwise empty classrooms. The walls were sprayed with blood and bullet holes.
When they reached the main entrance, they suddenly saw a boy in a trenchcoat with an assault rifle. His angellike face was covered with blood.
"Hi guys," Eric said.
Jonah and Dean stared at him in shock.
"I think you better head outside," Eric continued, as if he hadn't noticed the expressions on their faces. "There's bound to be some cops out there now. Take care of yourselves, okay?"
Without waiting for an answer, he headed back deeper into the school.
Jonah and Dean ran out to the waiting officers.

The boy in the trenchcoat kept walking through the halls. The rifle felt heavy in his hands, so he dropped it on the floor and kept walking. The blood on the floor should be easy to dry off, but the holes in the walls would require an extensive paintjob. He reached the cafeteria and sat down by one of the tables. A sudden comotion by the front doors of the school told him that the cops were on their way inside. It didn't matter now. He reached into one of the pockets in his coat and pulled out a small, nine millimeter handgun. It gleamed in the sunlight that shone in through the large windows. The boy calmly put the gun to his temple and pulled the trigger.
